SonnAlpin Glacier Restaurant

The building was erected in 1983, but, back then, it just had a small restaurant area that only skiers and mountaineers could reach. The new tunnel section from the turnoff to the Schneefernerhaus lodge (now a research station) to the Zugspitzplatt, the "plate" under the summit, was completed in 1988. It was then that the SonnAlpin Glacier Restaurant at 2600 m (8530 ft) was opened. Today, the restaurant delights guests from all over the world, at 362 m (1878 ft) below the summit of Zugspitze. Conveniently located in the ski area, the restaurant offers guests dishes that change daily and vary from traditional Bavarian “Schmankerl” and selected regional products all the way to international cuisine.

There is also a comfortable self-service restaurant where you can move about freely. Enjoy our Bavarian dishes in the restaurant or the genuine wood ambiance with a view of the Inn Valley in our cozy Blockhaus log cabin. Those who prefer vegetables will find delicious vegetarian dishes in our "Vegi Corner".
Our helpful and competent team will be glad to help you select just the right dishes and beverages for you or recommend one of our specials.
 
Outside, you can bask in the sun, cuddle up in a warm blanket, sip on a mug of hot chocolate and let go on one of the comfortable loungers on our spacious sun deck. With 400 summits and Germany’s only glacier at your feet. Use of the loungers is free of charge!

In our ShopAlpin, located directly in the entrance area, you will find numerous ideas for small gifts and souvenirs of Bavaria and the Zugspitze mountain. Our Glacier cable car that brings you to the summit in only 4 minutes is adjacent to the SonnAlpin Glacier Restaurant.
